“I feel totally out of control.”

This is a virtually universal statement, capturing the profound struggle that infertility patients face and is the core of the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual crisis during this time in patients’ lives. They feel biologically defective, mentally at a loss, socially out of the mainstream and like the biblical character, Job.

In my upcoming podcast with Julie Chang, I will focus on the why these feelings are normal and,  even more importantly, the many options available for those facing infertility to help them feel like they are back in the driver’s seat of life.  I will explain how to respond rather than react to the many challenges of infertility.  Mind/body interventions go a long way to giving patients a sense of empowerment. For example, I will discuss the power of hypnosis to enhance the feeling of empowerment, which has led to the great satisfaction of the many women, men and couples with whom I’ve worked over these decades. Many of my patients swear by hypnosis, noting they conceived after they added it to their fertility protocol.

Julie invited me to this podcast because of my 35 years experience in working with fertility patients. My long career has given me a broad perspective on fertility issues.  In addition to working privately with patients, I also teach stress reduction techniques to fertility patients at NYU Fertility Center and teach mental health professionals the most effective way to work with fertility patients at various conferences.  In fact, I’m running a two-day training for therapists who want to develop expertise in working with infertility on May 1st and 2nd in New York City.

You can deepen your understanding of what will be discussed on this podcast by reading my book, On Fertile Ground: Healing Infertility or visiting my website http://mind-body-unity.com/. I love my work and am excited to share advice and insights with the listeners of the Zen Fertility Center Podcast!
