Fertility's Pope-mobile - what is it?

A great question came up about not seeing cervical mucus around ovulation.

Heads up, dudes - this might be TMI for you but suck it up and learn about your woman.

Ok, here goes...

Typically, after your period ends, your hoo-la-la isn't make much cervical mucus (CM).  Sometimes you'll feel the dryness during sex and you need lube.  Or your man needs to do more foreplay (hint!).

Sidebar - if you guys think you're giving enough foreplay, you're not.  Period.  There is no such thing as too much foreplay (at least I've never heard that complaint before).  Foreplay starts as soon as sex is over and is prep for your next go-around.  That means the little touches here and there throughout the day that DON'T lead to sex.  That show you're jonesing for her.  THAT'S what turns her on.  Not the 5-10 minutes before your big bang - AFTER she's had a long day at work, attending boring meeting after meeting, shopping for groceries, and making dinner.

Righto - dry after period ends.

Then ideally, as you get closer to ovulation, you should start seeing more cervical mucus.  It becomes profuse, clear, and stretchy - what is often referred to as egg-white cervical mucus (EWCM).

This is literally the honeypot you're looking for cuz EWCM is the Pope-mobile for the sperm.  It helps the sperm make the journey to the uterus, protects it from the acidic uterine environment, and extends the life of the sperm so it can hang out like a surfer on the beach for the next wave, or in this case, the egg.

Some months, you may notice plenty of EWCM.  Others, not so much.  Why the fluctuation?

Well, it could be due to natural hormonal changes affected by stress.

Or, it could be something as simple as not drinking enough water.  Cervical mucus is about 90% water.

We all know the effects of not hydrating enough on our skin.    That ash is so not appealing.  That's why we put all sorts of expensive creams on our skin to slow down the aging process.  They all tout its water retention ability or how it's great at replenishing moisture.

Fundamentally, we know our skin looks better when we drink plenty of water.

Same goes with your cervical mucus.

Sometimes it's just a matter of going back to the basics.

The problem is we're not taught what the basics are when it comes to optimizing fertility.  Especially after being diagnosed with advanced maternal age, poor egg quality, low ovarian reserve, low AMH, high FSH, and the rest of the alphabet soup of infertility diagnoses typical for women over 40.

We have to learn as we go along.

And that's a lot of trial and error.

But alas, have no fear, m'ladies...

My online GPS (Get Pregnant & Stay pregnant) Fertility Program goes over the basics in excruciating detail cuz that's your foundation.  Otherwise, you're just like one of the pigs whose houses get huffed and puffed down by the wolf of infertility.
