Harry Potter Knows What's Up. Do You?

With a gloomy weather forecast, my kids and I had a movie marathon this past weekend.

The Harry Potter series.

Excellent choice.  The movies are great.  Books are even better.

I bow to the sheer imagination of J.K. Rowling's mind.

We only made it through 5 out of the the 8.  Each movie is almost 2.5 hours so excuse us slacking.

Each movie climaxes with an epic fight.  Harry Potter prevails obviously.

Since there are 8 Harry Potter movies, I don't think I'm spoiling it by sharing that piece of info.

In one of the movies, someone congratulates Harry on how he's been able to win these seemingly hopeless battles at such a young age.  He's a pre-teen.  The series starts when he's 11yo and ages a year with each successive book/movie.

Harry brushes the compliment off.  He attributes his victories to sheer, dumb luck and getting help from others.

He didn't do it alone.  He recognizes that.  He had lots of help from his friends and teachers.

Just as I got through my separation from my husband of 14 years last year entirely because of the support of my friends, family, and a lot of inner work with the help of books and podcasts.

Infertility is no joke.

It can be emotionally crippling.

In times of adversity such as this, that's when you need to get out of your little bubble and actively seek knowledge and support.

Support from people who know you and love you unconditionally.

Knowledge from people who know their craft.

It takes immense courage on your part to step out of your comfort zone.  To face your fears and weaknesses.  To ask for help.

You've been dealt this hand of cards.  It's out of your control.

You can choose to let the situation command you.

Or you can command the choices that present themselves to you.

Seek out experts.

Professionals helping those like you, every single day for years.  Hundreds of fertility patients.  Thousands, maybe.

I'm flabbergasted at the stuff I read in infertility forums.  If you're not careful, they can be cesspools of despair, hopelessness, and fear.

Your peers are not infertility experts.  The only thing they know is their situation.  And I guarantee you with 100% certainty that your situation is not the same as theirs.  In fact, their well intentioned advice can lead you astray and waste precious time that you don't have.

So if you need support, find it in more productive areas.
