How to De-Funk Your Life

A reader asks: Remember the post "A Life on Your Own Terms" (sent Jan 24)? I feel like that. Rinse and repeat. How do I get rid of the depressive feeling?

My suggestion is to first figure out where you get the most joy and do more of that. 

Second, figure out what things or people drag you down and get rid of it or change it to meet your needs.  If it's a relationship, that may require counseling to shift the dynamics to something more energizing.

It's often not as easy as it sounds.  Because it requires complete honesty with yourself and what you want and don't want.

It also takes time to figure that stuff out.  It's not an overnight task.  Rather, it's an ongoing process where we are constantly fine-tuning our lives.

It can take months or even years.  Especially if it involves your significant other or work.

But start with the small stuff that can be changed quickly. 

It's unrealistic to expect that you will never be unhappy.  You need to have the downs in order for you to recognize and appreciate the ups.

The goal is to have more happy moments than not in your day.

Then in a week

A month

And finally you'll look back at your year and say "That was an awesome year."

Time, patience, diligence.

Anything worth having often requires those 3 elements.

Kinda like getting pregnant.
