Having Purpose Helps Fertility

A new patient came yesterday.  As with some of my fertility patients, this will likely be a long road for her.

She has been dealing with chronic fatigue syndrome for almost 10 years.  It can get so bad that she's bedridden for days at a time.

She has tried many modalities with varying degrees of success.

She eats healthy, exercises, meditates, and has a strong community around her.  Does all the right things.  But she still hasn't been able to completely overcome the down cycles of extreme fatigue.

At this point, it's too early for me to tell if I can help her with acupuncture.  We'll have to see.

But one thing that really stood out to me and that I've also noticed with a number of fertility patients is that she doesn't have a purpose.

She has become so defined by her condition that her life revolves around it.  Everything she does is in the hopes of overcoming it and to be healthy.

The problem is that health isn't just about physical health.

True health comes from a combination of physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health.

Spiritual health can be attained with meditation, prayer, and/or meaningful connection with community (friends and family).

Emotional health stems from taking responsibility for what you can control: emotions, thoughts, actions.

Mental health arises from having a purpose.  Building something. Working towards that goal creates mental challenges that keep our minds sharp.  People often spiral downward mentally and physically when they retire because they lose their sense of purpose.  We all need to feel like we are here for a reason.  Without that as our North Star, we can become lost in the negativity that surrounds us.

With this woman, she needed to figure out how to give her life purpose other than fighting her disease.  My suggestion to her was to blog about her journey so she can inspire others like her.

As you progress on your fertility path, challenge yourself to create a life that you love.  That birthing process can spark creation in a more physical way.

Do you know what your purpose is?
