Discipline = Freedom
It's a credo that ex-Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, author of "Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win" lives by.
He shared this with us Friday night in a live audience recording of the Dave Asprey's podcast, Bulletproof Radio.
Unknowingly, I've discovered it myself in the past few months.
It sounds counterintuitive.
How could discipline create more freedom? It seems to make more sense that it would constrict freedom.
I've found that having the discipline to take care of myself is what leads to freedom.
And freedom is happiness
So really, discipline = happiness
When I cultivate the discipline to devote time for myself everyday, it gives me the freedom to discover myself and imagine the impossible.
I wake up earlier than I would ever have thought possible to focus on my needs.
Meditation, biking with my dog, morning cup of butter coffee, writing these daily emails.
These are all done in the early hours before I give my time to others. It grounds me and sets the tone for the day.
Set up a routine that you can implement daily for self-care.
If your excuse is that you're too busy taking care of or serving others, you will never make the time necessary to create the conditions for a fertile mind and body.
So put yourself as numero uno priority because no one else will.
