Poor egg quality myth debunked

Yet another email today asking for help from a woman diagnosed with "poor egg quality and quantity due to age"...

This is the most common diagnosis my patients have since I focus on helping women in their late 30s to 40s get pregnant.

What I'm going to tell you is the straight up truth.

Most people don't know it.

Most doctors don't even know it.

The secret that hardly anyone knows is that egg quality can be improved...

Here's the giddyup on that...

Yes, women are born with all the eggs that we're going to have.  (Actually, recent studies in mice have thrown a kink into that assumption.  That's something they're researching now.)

There's a huge BUT in there though.

The first part of egg development (called Prophase I) is completed within the first 3 months of pregnancy.  While the baby is still cooking in mom.

Then it stops completely. They just hang out until puberty.  Probably having a slumber party, giggling about boys, braiding each other's hair, painting toenails, crank calling from the phone book - wouldn't know anything about that ;).

Sorry, was reminiscing about my college days.  Back to the topic at hand...

As a newborn baby girl, you had about 2 million immature eggs.    Most of those eggs will die or be reabsorbed into your body, leaving about 400,000 at puberty.

At this time, usually between 11-14yo, one egg at a time matures with each period.

Over the course of your lifetime, only 400-500 eggs will be released while you're menstruating.

That's 400 eggs out of a pool of 400,000!

What does that mean to you?

A whole lot, guurrrllll!!!

It means that you have the power to influence the development of the eggs!!

Only the strongest of that 400,000 will survive.  And the strong are made, not born.  With our lifestyle choices.

Everything that we do, eat, think since birth impacts our eggs.

So, bye-bye, "poor egg quality".

If you want to know my mad scientist ways of improving egg quality, I'm starting a group coaching program in July.  I'm going to be pouring the best clinical pearls I've gleaned in over 18 years of practice into you.

So if you want in on this action, fill out and submit this application (yesterday's link was no good).  If you have problems accessing or submitting the form, hit "Reply" to this email and we can get it all figured out.

Btw, I'll address poor egg quantity tomorrow.  I've written enough today.  Toodles and hope you're having an awesome weekend!
