Guess how much this 1961 painting by Barnett Newman sold for last year?
It's one of those pieces where I say "WTF? I can do that myself."
I'm definitely missing something when I'm not willing to pay $84 MILLION dollars but others are. Cuz that's how much it raked in at auction.
So being an art ignoramus, that amount is incomprehensible to me. I sure know of other ways to spend $84M and it doesn't involve hanging a piece of canvas on my wall.
But just as I can't understand that valuation because I don't know the complexities of the art world, so it is in the fertility world...
People often balk about going to acupuncture as one of the first measures to improve fertility. Citing expense as the reason.
I understand financial limitations. I'm a single mom so I get it.
But then they turn right around and spend $20,000-$25,000 for their IVF on one chance at getting pregnant. ONE! And the chances of that one cycle resulting in a healthy baby are unfortunately not in your favor.
Here are the average IVF success rates in 2015, by age group...
- >42yo - 2.7%
- 41-42yo - 7.2%
- 38-40yo - 12.5%
- 35-37yo - 17.6%
- <35yo - 22.4%
Is it worth it to spend a few hundred dollars to move that needle of success more in your favor?
But when just looking at the surface of pricing, you miss the value of what goes into the cost.
