Back to the car analogy from yesterday.
Let's expand that out to your body.
So your body is a car. The engine is your mitochondria.
What's your accelerator?
For such a small gland, it does a LOT!
It's essential for metabolism, growth, and (drum roll, please) fertility.
More hormones are produced when your body has an increased demand for energy, like during pregnancy to grow the baby. If it can't meet that demand, then you either won't be able to get pregnant or have an increased risk of miscarriage.
Many symptoms of an underactive thyroid mimic the signs of aging so doctors often overlook the thyroid as a cause of infertility.
- menstrual cycle irregularities
- brain fog, memory loss
- weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- low sex drive
- hair loss
- dry skin
Even if doctors get the thyroid tested, the tests ordered often aren't comprehensive enough to determine if there's a problem with the thyroid.
No worries. That's something I'll cover in my online fertility coaching program when I relaunch in November. If your thyroid is something you're concerned about, stay tuned!
