Going to these places when you're TTC can hurt you...

A client was telling me yesterday how she got on an infertility forum while researching her new IVF protocol.

I inwardly groaned.  Hate those things.

Then she said she felt more optimistic about her upcoming IVF cycle when she saw how it worked for others on an internet forum.

Oh goody!  I was relieved to hear the positive feedback.

Cuz more often than not, the online forums can be counterproductive.

In fact, I encourage people to get off them asap.

They can become bottomless pits of negativity.

Endless posts of sadness because their cycle failed or their period came.  Then dozens of people jumping on board to offer their sympathies.

Of course, the need for validation of their experience is understandable and important sometimes to vent.

But at a certain point, you have to accept that it's part of your journey and figure out what to do next.

If I let every time my 8yo talked smack, dissed me, eye-rolled, or harrumphed bother me, I would have given her up years ago.  Cuz, gawddamn, it never ends.  I'm a broken record - "if you have nothing nice to say, shut the front door" (in appropriate 8 yo language, of course).

You gotta develop Supergirl skin - impenetrable.  Get right back up and work on your mission.

For every problem, there are numerous solutions.  So keep trying different strategies to see what works.

Part of being successful in ANYTHING, including trying to get pregnant, is to be aware and intentional about your interaction with others.

Don't go on autopilot when socializing.  That includes online forums where you're lurking.

Do you feel empowered or more hopeful?  If not, get the hell out of there.

You have enough issues to deal with.  You don't need extra drama from people you don't even know to drag you down.

Instead, find resources that move you forward towards your goal of getting pregnant.

Lucky for you, I have a perfect resource... :) my online GPS (Get Pregnant & Stay pregnant) Fertility Program - zenfertility.com/gps.  Caution!  Drama mamas not allowed.  Only women who want to take control of their bodies and do the best they can.
