How straws affect your fertility

Earlier this month, Starbucks announced that it would phase out single use plastic straws from all their locations by 2020.

With 8 MILLION metric tons of plastic entering the ocean every year, Starbucks leading the charge in reducing its environmental impact is admirable.

Plastic doesn't just affect our external environment though.

It also contaminates our internal environment - our bodies.

Scientists have found that microwaving food in plastic containers can reduce fertility and cause harm to your unborn child.

When food is heated, chemicals in plastic leach into the food it touches.  Eating those chemicals can increase risks of cancer, infertility, and disrupt normal functioning of reproductive system.

The level of exposure to BPA is so high that regular monitoring by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that more than 90% of the general population has detectable level of BPA in their bodies.

Instead of plastic containers, use glass containers whenever possible.

Back to the straw...stop drinking hot beverages with straws.  Yes, I know you're trying to keep your lipstick intact.  But the high temperature will also leach chemicals from the plastic into your drink and into you.
